What’s on This Week – Three nights of FREE live music.

Posted on March 8, 2011 in Ronnie's News

The great entertainment at Ronnie’s continues this week with THREE nights of free live music starting on Tuesday as we host our famous Open Mic night.

We’ve long been championing  the virtues of the Macclesfield music scene – just look at our Battle of the Bands to play at FOMFEST in March – but this is where is all starts. Genuinely talented people just enjoying the opportunity to perform in front of an appreciative crowd. It’s always a great night, so don’t miss out.

Wednesday sees the focus shift from live music to Live Sport with Champions League Football on the big screens before the weekend starts early as Steeve Mac is here to play us through Thursday night and into Friday morning.

DJ’s Bert and Brighty are here for the Friday session so why not chuck back a couple of our new ‘Most Powerful Bomb in the World’ the French Hand Grenade.. But handle with care.. They might cause you to wave the white flag.

And this weekend Ronnie’s Bar continues to gear up for a summer of live music in Duke’s Court as Aussie sensation Carus Thompson comes back in the UK to play at Ronnie’s for the fourth time on Saturday at 7.30pm.

One of only four UK dates on a European tour to launch the singer-songwriter’s latest album ‘Caravan’ it is also his last in England this year before he jets over to Germany via Edinburgh.

“Carus is a very talented musician” added Ronnie “and it’s always an honour to have him here. It’s always been an excellent evening when he’s been around and as with all the live music at Ronnie’s Bar, it’s absolutely free for anyone to come along and enjoy the show.”

And on Sunday the bar also continues to play it’s part in giving two local acts the opportunity of a lifetime.

The Friends of Mine festival at Capesthorne Hall in May will feature live music from North West legends The Charlatans, The Fall and the Lightening Seeds, along with many more including Ronnie’s resident band Rough Twist over the three days.

With the organisers looking to add two up-and-coming local acts to the bill, their first port of call was Ronnie’s who are holding a ‘Battle of the Bands’ to pick put the lucky two.

This will take the form of four ‘heats’, with the first taking part last Sunday and others taking place on Sunday 13th and 20th of March with the last on April 3rd after a week’s break for the monthly Macc Sabbath event.

The best two from each heat will then go through to two finals on April 10th and April 17th where the winners will be given the big chance at FOMFEST.

“We have put a lot of time and effort into the live music area of the bar over the past few years” said owner Ronnie Rees.

“We host regular live music events from the weekly Open Mic to the monthly

live music showcase – Macc Sabbath. We know that people enjoy coming here to perform and always want to come back again and again.

This reputation has clearly started to pay dividends as we’re not only the venue of choice for local live music performers and fans, but for people looking to discover the best artists in the area.”
