Birthday Blog

It’s hard for me to believe that two years ago today we were panicking about whether we’d be able to get the bar ready in time for its opening night. Time appears to have flown by but then again two years ago seems a lifetime ago.

I suppose the bar has developed radically in the two years we’ve been open. Not only has our quality drinks list expanded and we now serve superb freshly cooked to order food, but the bar has got bigger. Twelve months ago we opened the courtyard bar and the Front Room areas.

Our entertainment portfolio has also expanded radically since we opened two years ago. When we opened we had an iPod (DJ Dopi as he is sometimes referred to here) with a few play lists compiled by me and my mate Rolf. Now we have a full range of quality professional entertainment with DJs playing every Thursday, Friday & Saturday; live bands on Wednesdays and Thursdays; and Open Mic night on Tuesdays.

We are open all day from 10am until the early hours the following day each and every day of the week. I’d like to think we’ve raised the standards of Macclesfield’s nightlife by a considerable margin. My next task is to do the same for lunchtimes and early evenings. We have the right ingredients in a fantastic chef and superb service staff, so there’s no reason why we won’t achieve this. We are after all a quality bar for people who appreciate quality and I’m proud of what the team here have achieved so far.

And that’s another key to what I believe in, I’m proud of what we’ve achieved so far means I still have a heap more to achieve with this bar. Always striving to improve it I would love feedback from you, our guests. You will have seen comments cards all over the bar inviting opinion. We also now invite opinion through our new and improved website. Check it out, and tell me what you think. With your feedback on what you like, and let’s face it things you don’t like, this place will continue to evolve and stay at the forefront of entertainment in the town.

We are continuing to expand our premium drinks list. Many of you may have tried the Mahou beer (pronounced mow as in cow I am reliably informed) we brought in as a guest beer for the Bank Holiday last weekend. It is a wonderful drink, Spain’s best beer by some way, so we are offering it again this Saturday and Sunday. If it continues to be as popular we will consider putting it on permanently, again I’d be interested in your feedback. Also this weekend we are launching a new premium gin. Brockman’s is a unique product with loads of flavour. It’s almost like a premium infused vodka with a gin kick. Try out the Brockman’s Bramble its on offer in the two for £10 list so it really is worth a go.

So, two years on from our opening night, we are having a special day of celebration on Sunday 6th September with live music in the afternoon from the wonderful Carus Thompson.

Carus Thompson Carus Thompson

Carus played here a few months back and is top quality. He has since toured all over Europe and is returning here for another gig before returning to his native Australia. Don’t miss him he is a great performer.

Then in the evening our resident band, Macc rock superstars the Virginmarys, will play to a packed courtyard once again. The usual high quality drinks offer can be complimented with a superb bowl of chilli.

Both bands on Sunday will perform in the new look Front Room area. We have replaced the frontage of this room with sliding doors, which for the live bands transforms the room into a stage overlooking the courtyard.

We have also renamed the Front Room as Ronnie’s Lounge, so for events like this it will be the Live Lounge. For business meetings it will be the Executive Lounge and for parties it will be the Party Lounge. The new doors have really made a difference and the whole venue now looks complete, I do hope you like it. We have many other ideas as well but I’ll save those for a later date.

Virginmarys Virginmarys

Next week also sees the launch of our new menu for Autumn. See for details. The best burger in Macc is retained along with the Beer battered Fish and Chips. But we’ve now introduced a Shepherds Pie, a Beetroot risotto along with the welcome return of the Bubble and Squeak. And from Sunday 13th September (a week on Sunday to save you working it out) we are starting our new traditional Sunday Lunch menu.

Check out the website for details and any special offers too.

Other than that I’ve got our party to prepare for, so hopefully I’ll see you at it on Sunday.

Friday 5th September 2009

PS Don’t forget tonight (Friday) we’ve got resident DJs Paul Hibbert and Mr Rylan and tomorrow night (Saturday) we’ve got Steeve Mac (plus tambourines, maracas and a few other  props) providing your top quality entertainment.
